Erasmus+ Students' Exchange in Gandia

From the 8th – 16th March 2024 25 students (2nd and 4th grades) of the BG/BRG Judenburg participated in the Erasmus+ students’ exchange at the Spanish “Colegio Abad Sola” in Gandia/Spain. The students were accompanied by the teachers Mag. Bernd Fiechtl, Mag.a Susanne Stadler and Mag.a Ilse Prenn. This was the second part of this project where Austrian students were warmly welcomed by Spanish host families and the Spanish Erasmus+ Coordinators Jaime Sainz Castillo (Headmaster of Colegio Abad Sola), Inés Lado Monserrat and Joan Maravilla Tarrazona. The Austrian students stayed a the whole week with their exchange students and carried out a wide range of ecological, social  and cultural activities.

The main aim of this project was based on the topics “sustainability”, “plastic waste and reduction” and “social and cultural learning”.

Special focus was put on to promote environmental knowledge and awareness among teachers and students regarding plastic waste. The main priority of this project was to protect the environment, especially by reducing plastic and plastic waste. Since 2022, the partners have developed measures to develop an environmentally friendly school and have exchanged and collected experiences and effective methods to reduce plastic waste.

 

 

 

Further goals were:

-          The development of STEM competences ("mathematics, computer science, natural science, technology") using English and the topic "plastic waste reduction" by participating in an interdisciplinary project.

-          Development of digital competences.

-          Building and promoting global citizenship through multicultural collaboration and interactive teaching.

-          Strengthening skills such as entrepreneurship, creativity and strategic thinking.

-          The integration of students with special needs

-          Building partnerships with European schools to achieve innovative results or exchange best practices.

-          During the mobility, students from Poland and Austria will participate in formal and non-formal learning activities.

Saturday, 9th: Arrival and Warm Welcome: The Austrian team touched down in Gandia in the late afternoon, marking the beginning of what promised to be an enriching week ahead. Their arrival was met with excitement and anticipation as host families eagerly awaited the chance to welcome them into their homes.

Sunday, 10th: Bonding with Host Families

Sunday was dedicated to strengthening bonds between the Austrian visitors and their host families. It was a day filled with laughter, shared meals, and cultural exchange as participants immersed themselves in the traditions and lifestyle of their Spanish hosts.

Monday, 11th: Exploring Valencia The week kicked into high gear on Monday with a visit to Valencia, one of Spain's most vibrant cities. Participants had the opportunity to explore the City of Sciences and delve into the rich history of the Historical Centre. The highlight of the day was attending the mascletà, a traditional fireworks display that captivated everyone's senses. Upon returning to Gandia, the group enjoyed a free afternoon to relax and reflect on the day's adventures.

Tuesday, 12th: Discovering Gandia's Charms Tuesday began with a warm reception at the Town Hall, where local officials extended a heartfelt welcome to the Austrian team. The day continued with a lively gymkana around the city, guiding participants through Gandia's most iconic landmarks and hidden gems. Ice-break activities at school paved the way for an afternoon of fun at Gandia beach, where students engaged in games, water analysis activities, and participated in a plastic collection drive to promote environmental awareness.

Wednesday, 13th: Embracing Sustainability As the week progressed, Wednesday focused on environmental sustainability and creativity. Participants took part in workshops, recycling activities, and games at school, exploring innovative ways to reduce waste and protect the planet. The afternoon saw the reuse of plastic materials to create art, highlighting the importance of recycling and upcycling in the fight against pollution. Later, participants enjoyed social and cultural activities with their host families, deepening connections and forging lasting friendships.

Thursday, 14th: Exploring Nearby Towns Thursday brought the opportunity to venture beyond Gandia's borders with a visit to Denia and Jávea or Altea. Participants engaged in activities aimed at finding strategies to reduce and avoid waste, gaining valuable insights into sustainable living practices. The day concluded with a return to Gandia and a free afternoon to relax and explore the town at leisure.

Friday, 15th: Immersion in Local Culture The penultimate day of the program was filled with immersive cultural experiences. A workshop at the Fallas Museum provided a glimpse into Valencia's unique traditions, while workshops and games at school continued to promote learning and engagement. The day ended on a high note with a percussion mascletà at school, followed by hot chocolate and snacks, before participants gathered for the closing ceremony and received certificates commemorating their participation in the Erasmus week.

Saturday, 16th: Farewell and Departure As the week drew to a close, emotions ran high as the Austrian team bid farewell to Gandia and its warm hospitality. Gathered at the Railway Station, participants reflected on the memories made and friendships formed during their time in Spain, carrying with them cherished moments that would last a lifetime.

In conclusion, the week-long cultural exchange program in Gandia was a resounding success, bringing together individuals from different backgrounds to share experiences, learn from one another, and foster a sense of global citizenship and unity. As participants departed for their respective homes, they left behind a legacy of friendship and understanding that would continue to resonate long after their departure.

Der Schüleraustausch nach Spanien

Samstag:

Um 3:45 Uhr bin ich aufgestanden, um mich fertig für den Tag zu machen. Dann fuhren ich und meine Eltern von Zuhause ungefähr um 4:15 Uhr weg. Um 4:45 Uhr war der Treffpunk bei der Bushaltestelle vor dem BG/BRG Judenburg. Circa um 5:00 Uhr sind wir dann mit dem Bus zum Flughafen nach Wien gefahren.

Am Flughafen angekommen haben wir erst die Koffer abgegeben und dann den Security- Check gemacht. Danach hatten wir Zeit mit unseren Gruppen, um uns am Flughafen umzuschauen. Nun war auch schon das Boarding. Wir flogen mit der Swiss Airline von Wien nach Zürich.

Angekommen im Zürich ging es rasch weiter nach Valencia. In Valencia angekommen fuhren wir mit dem Bus nach Gandia und kamen dann anschließend bei unseren Gastfamilien an.

Am 9.3.2024 sind um fünf Uhr in der Früh an der Bushaltestelle der Schule wegfahren. Wir hatten noch einen sehr langen Weg nach Spanien vor uns. Wir mussten zwei Stunden von Judenburg nach Wien fahren. Dann sind wir von Wien nach Zürich geflogen und von Zürich wieder mit Flugzeug nach Valencia weitergeflogen. Als wir in Gandia ankamen, hießen uns die Spanier Herzlich willkommen. Als wir zu unseren Gastfamilien nach Hause gingen, lebten wir uns kurz ein und gingen danach Shoppen. Was für ein aufregender Tag!

Am Sonntag gingen wir Kajakfahren, obwohl das Meer noch so kalt war. Nach dem Kajakfahren gingen wir noch eine leckere Pizza essen und zum krönenden Abschluss gingen wir noch an den Strand.

Am Samstag musste ich schon ganz früh aufstehen, um pünktlich bei der Schule zu sein. Wir fuhren nämlich mit dem Bus nach Wien zum Flughafen. Wir hatten einen Schüleraustausch. Beim Flughafen gaben wir unsere Koffer ab und tranken alle Flüssigkeiten aus. Danach gingen wir zur Sicherheitskontrolle und wurden dort auch kontrolliert. Wir durften ein wenig frei herumgehen und dann stiegen wir schließlich in das Flugzeug ein. Wir flogen nach Zürich und der Flug war sehr entspannt, außer für Felix. In Zürich hatten wir keinen langen Aufenthalt und eilten gleich weiter.

Mit dem zweiten Flugzeug flogen wir nach Valencia. Dort holten wir unsere Koffer ab und fuhren mit dem Bus zu unseren Gasteltern nach Gandia.

Am Samstag fuhren wir schon sehr früh aus Judenburg los. Genauer gesagt war es erst 5 Uhr in der Früh. Angekommen am Flughafen, hatten wir ungefähr um 10 Uhr unseren nächsten Flug. Schließlich kamen wir um 10 Uhr in Zürich an. Wenig später ging es weiter nach Valencia. Angekommen in Valencia mussten wir noch eine Stunde nach Gandia weiterfahren. Dann kamen wir bei unseren spanischen Gasteltern an. Dort tat jeder etwas anderes. Meine Familie bestellte Pizza.

Am Sonntag trafen sich die meisten von uns mit ihren Gastgeschwistern am Strand. Ich ging zwar auch auf den Strand, traf dort aber nicht so viele von meiner Klasse. Nach dem Strand besuchten wir die Oma meiner Gastschwester, wo wir Paella aßen.

Sonntag:

Ich stand um 8 Uhr auf, ging frühstücken. Danach gingen wir Kajak fahren, es war sehr lustig doch man wurde sehr schnell nass. Und anschließend gingen alle in eine Pizzeria, und zu guter Letzt auch noch zum Strand ( Ich finde Sonntag war der beste Tag in Spanien).

Am Samstag sind wir, das Erasmusteam und ich, nach Spanien geflogen. Als wir in Gandia ankamen, haben wir die Koffer ausgeladen und sind zu den Gastfamilien gefahren. Am Samstagabend traf ich mich mit ein paar aus meiner Klasse im Shoppingcentre. Am Sonntag hatte ich zum Frühstück Pancakes. Nach dem Frühstück spielten ich und meine spanische Gastschwester auf ihrem Balkon mit einer Nerfpistole. Um 10 Uhr ging es los zum Kanufahren mit meinen Freunden. Zum Mittagessen gingen wir in eine Pizzeria. Am späten Nachmittag besuchten wir noch den Strand.

Um 5 Uhr in der Früh fuhren wir in Judenburg am Busbahnhof ab nach Wien. Am Flughafen kamen wir um 9 Uhr an. Kurz darauf gingen wir zum Check-In. Für ein paar von uns Schüler war der darauffolgende Flug der erste. Wir stiegen in den Flieger ein und wenige Stunden später kamen wir in Spanien an.

Am Sonntag waren wir in einer Spielhalle. Dort streiften wir ein bisschen umher. Danach gingen wir alle aus der zweiten Klasse gemeinsam Pizza essen.

Samstag

Am Samstag fuhren wir mit dem Bus um 5 Uhr von Judenburg nach Wien. Die Fahrt zum Flughafen dauerte circa 2 Stunden. Um 10 Uhr morgens ging es dann für uns in die Luft. Wir mussten in Zürich in einen anderen Flieger umsteigen. Dann flogen wir noch einmal 2 Stunden nach Valencia. In Valencia holte uns ein Bus ab, der uns nach Gandia brachte. Wir fuhren eine Stunde nach Gandia, wo wir dann feierlich begrüßt wurden. Danach fuhr ich mit meiner Gastfamilie zu ihrem Haus. Ich fühlte mich etwas einsam, darum trafen ich und meine Freunde uns wieder in einem großen Shopping Center. Dort war es sehr lustig und wir hatten sehr viel Spaß. Es war eine sehr lustige Anreise mit unseren Professoren und der Beginn eines großen Abenteuers für die ganze Gruppe.

Sonntag

Am Sonntag stand ich in der Früh um 6:30 Uhr auf. Zum Frühstück gab es Waffeln und wir planten unseren Tag. Nach dem Frühstück fuhren wir zu unserer ersten Station: das Kajak fahren. Das Kajak hatte 2 Löcher und deshalb wurden wir sehr schnell nass. Natürlich mussten wir uns danach umziehen. Leider hatte ich meine Socken vergessen. Zum Glück hatte mein „Gastbruder“ ein zweites Paar dabei, das er mir borgte. Zu Mittag aßen wir eine Pizza und als Nachspeise nahmen wir ein Eis zu uns. Nach dem Essen spielten wir im anliegenden Park und unsere spanischen Gastgeschwister schossen Böller. Am Nachmittag spielten wir am Strand Fußball. Leider begann es dann zu regnen und wir mussten nach Hause fahren. Am Abend hatten wir ein leckeres Abendessen und wir sahen uns einen Film an.

Am Samstag, dem 9.3 ging es für uns auf nach Spanien. Die Reise war lang und anstrengend, verlief allerdings sehr gut.

Als wir dann in Gandia ankamen, wurde ich sehr herzlich von meiner Gastfamilie empfangen. Anschließend fuhren wir zu ihnen nach Hause. Am Samstag machten wir nicht mehr viel, aber wir bestellten Pizza. Diese war anders als bei uns in Österreich.

Am Sonntag gingen wir mit den anderen Kanufahren im Meer. Das war sehr lustig. Anschließend folgte ein gemeinsames Pizzaessen und wir besuchten einen nahegelegenen Park. Danach besuchten wir alle zusammen den Strand. Das war so lustig. Am Abend waren wir alle sehr müde.

Nachdem wir in Spanien ankamen, empfing mit meine Gastfamilie freundlich. Wir fuhren nach Hause und stellten mein Gepäck in mein Zimmer. Danach fuhren wir zu einem Golfplatz und ich sah meiner Familie beim Golfen zu. Als die Stunde vorbei war, fuhren wir zum Melr und aßen dort Churros. Am nächsten Morgen war eine Feier und wir sahen Leute zu wie sie trommelten und marschierten.

Als dies vorbei war, traf ich mich mit Julia und wir gingen Golf spielen. Dann gingen wir alle zusammen Pizza und anschließend Eis essen. Nach dem Essen gingen wir in den Park und genossen dort die Sonne. Dann fuhren wir nach Hause und ich spielte mit dem Hund. In Spanien war es lustig und es war eine tolle Erfahrung.

Am Samstag ging die Reise nach Spanien schon richtig früh los. Um 5:00 Uhr ging es mit dem Bus nach Wien. Von Wien flogen wir mit dem Flugzeug nach Zürich, dort kamen wir um 10 Uhr an. Nach einem kurzen Aufenthalt ging es weiter nach Valencia und von dort mit dem Bus weiter nach Gandia. Dort gingen wir am Abend in das Shopping Centre.

Am Sonntag gingen wir Kajak fahren und danach in eine Pizzeria. Später spielten wir auf einem nahegelegenen Spielplatz und verbrachten noch etwas Zeit am Strand. Ich und mein Gastkind spielten noch ein bisschen Lego auf seiner PS4. Es gab noch ein Hot Dog zum Abendessen und dann gingen wir auch schon ins Bett.

Samstag:

Am Morgen haben wir verschlafen und sind mit Stress in den Tag gestartet. Am Anfang wollte mich meine Mama mit dem Auto zum Flughafen bringen, doch wir haben es noch zum Bus geschafft. Endlich begann die Reise über Zürich nach Valencia und dann nach Gandia, wo schon alle mit Freude auf uns warteten.

Ich habe gestaunt, weil die Landschaft so schön war. Ein paar Stunden später gingen ich und meine Gastfamilie durch Gandia spazieren. Erschöpft ging ich dann um 23 Uhr schlafen.

Sonntag

Um acht Uhr begann der Tag für mich. Mit Freude stand ich auf und machte mich bereit für das Treffen mit Sophia und Rebecca. Um zirka 10 Uhr verließen wir das Haus und sahen uns die Tremmler gemeinsam mit ihnen an. Danach fuhren wir zu einem Golfplatz und redeten miteinander.

Dort durfte ich auch Carlotta und ihre Freundin kennenlernen. Zum Schluss waren wir noch Pizza essen mit der Gruppe. Ich telefonierte mit meinen Eltern und dann ging ich auch schon schlafen.

Student’s reports about the 2nd students‘ exchange in Gandia/Spain  4th Graders

 

Erasmus+ Austausch mit Spanien 2023/24

Marie Göttfried

Am Montag, dem 11.03.2024 fuhren wir im Rahmen des Erasmus+ Projekts nach Valencia. Die Fahrt dauerte ca. 1 Stunde.

Unser 1. Ziel war das Fisch-Museum. Dort hatten wir etwa 45 Minuten Zeit um Bilder zu machen und die Gegend zu erkunden. Uns allen hat dieser Ort sehr gut gefallen. Es gab viele Sitzgelegenheiten auf denen wir unsere Jause essen konnten.

Anschließend fuhren wir mit dem Bus in die atemberaubende Altstadt von Valencia um dort die prachtvollen sogenannten „Fallas“ zu begutachten. Fallas sind Skulpturen die aus Styropor und Ton gemacht werden. In Spanien ist es eine Tradition, diese Skulpturen in der Zeit des Las Fallas Festes zu verbrennen.

Zum Abschluss des Besuchs in Valencia sahen, bzw. hörten wir uns Mascletta an. Dies ist ein Fest bei dem innerhalb kürzester Zeit sehr viele Böller explodieren. Vom 1 bis zum 19 März geschieht das täglich um genau 14 Uhr. Danach fuhren wir zu unseren Gastfamilien nach Gandia zurück.

Am Abend gingen die 4 Klassen noch mit ihren Gastfamilien zu einem exquisiten Fisch- Restaurant. Dort herrschte eine tolle Stimmung. Nach dem Essen gingen wir Kinder noch ein Eis essen und genossen den Abend.

 

My project

When we arrived in Spain we were warmly welcomed by our host parents and students and drove to their homes. After unpacking our suitcases we drove to a nice restaurant on the beach and had our dinner there. The next morning, Monday, we all took the bus to Valencia and visited the Museum of Science and Art. Then we visited the Mascletas. People shoot fireworks into the air every day for a month, always at the same time. On Wednesday we had a workshop at school where disabled people showed us how to make a bookmark and identify smells.  So for lunch, me and my family ate paella. that was very good. I think it tastes the best in Spain. Later in the afternoon we went to a bowling center with all the students that was very funny. After we played bowling we were at a burger restaurante and ate  a lot of typical American burgers. Then we drove home. The Spanish people go to bed very late. On Thursday we took the bus to a boat dock and took a catamaran along the Spanish coast. The water was crystal clear and relatively warm. That was a unique experience. We went late to bed. On Friday we visited the Fallas Museum, which was very interesting. They told us the background story and showed us the traditional clothes they wear.  And  we were able to make the mascleta figures ourselves. In the afternoon we received our certificates. On Saturday we drove to the airport and flew back home, which was very tiring.

On day one we arrived in Valencia in the afternoon at about 3 o clock. But we had to go to our city by bus. The city Gandia is near of Valencia and has a beach. When we had arrived at Gandia we met our exchange students and our host families. Then we went to our houses. In the evening we celebrated the Birthday of Paul, played Basketball and then went to dinner at the beach.

Then on the second day we went to Alicante and went to the beach. Then we went to a restaurant for lunch. In the afternoon we played football on the beach and then went back to the city of Gandia to walk around a little bit. We also went to a fiesta.

On Monday, the third day we went to Valencia with our exchange students to visit the Art and Science museum. When we arrived back in Valencia we went to a football field and played football.

On Tuesday we were in school the first time. We played a game to get to know the classmates of our exchange students. In the afternoon we went to the beach to swim and play football. Then we went on a tennis court to play tennis in the evening.

On Wednesday we were in school and played volleyball with the Spanish students. Then we went to one of the exchange students home to eat a traditional food of Spain, the “Paella”. In the afternoon we went to a bowling center. In the evening we ate dinner at a restaurant.

On Tuesday we went to Javea and made a boat tour on the see. In the afternoon we went to a shopping center. In the evening I went to dinner with my host family and shot firecrackers because in Gandia there were the “feias”. That is a big traditionally firmly. 

On Friday we visited a museum in Gandia about the feias. Then we made a little workshop were we created a picture. On 14:00 we visited the “Mascleta” that’s a big Tradition in the feias. In the evening we had a last dinner together with all parents and students.

We had a great week in Spain and I would definitely to this Erasmus project again. The families were really nice and friendly and we made a lot of new friends.

The trip to Spain. We went by bus to Vienna. Our bus leaved at 5 o clock. Then we flew to Zurich. After that we flew to Valencia. When we arrived in Gandia we went to our exchange students. Then we drove home. Then I out packet my things and gave my presents to his parents. We went to Pablos house because Paul had a birthday party. In the evening we went to the beach and after that to an nice restaurant and had Dinner there.

On Sonday we went to a beach in Alicante. Then we went to eat something, and then we played the whole afternoon football. Then we went to the centre of Gandia and Ausias shot some firecrackers. One time he threw one at Sebastian.

On Monday we visited Valencia it was very nice to see. We went to an science and art museum. Then we visited the Mascletta. On the evening we played football again and had Pizza.

OnTuesday we went to the beach. We played football. On Tuesday we have been at Sofia’s house. Then we played tennis. It was very nice.

On Wednesday in the school we played volleyball. We had Paella at Pablos house. At the afternoon we went to the bowling centre. After that we went to an very nice restaurant.

On Thursday we have been on a boat. We saw a very beautiful coast. On the afternoon we went to an shopping centre. The water was were clear and beautiful.

On Friday we went to an Museum of the fallas it was very interesting and they provided a lot of information. Then we had kebab. On the afternoon we got our certificate. After that we went to the beach. Sebastian, Paul and me have been a last time in the sea. Then we went to an nice restaurant after that we threw some firecrackers.

On Saturday we drove with the bus to the airport and flew back home.
